2.1 Health Effects - Acute

Swallowed

Ingestion of large amounts could be harmful. If poisoning occurs the following symptoms for sodium salts may arise : nausea, vomiting, gastric irritation, thirst possibly leading to swollen tongue, weakness, tension, delirium, hyperpnoea, tachycardia and respiratory arrest.

Eye

May be an eye irritant.

Skin

Repeated or prolonged skin contact may lead to dermatitic effects in some sensitive individuals.

Inhaled

Dust particles may cause irritation to the nose and respiratory tract. High concentrations may cause coughing and choking.

2.2 Health Effects - Chronic

Medical experience indicates that this material is of low hazard in normal doses. It is normally excreted rapidly from the body but in cases of impaired renal function, dangerous quantities of this salt may build up.

2.3 First Aid

Swallowed

DO NOT attempt to give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Give plenty of water to drink. If vomiting occurs, give more water to achieve effective dilution. Seek medical assistance.

Eye

Immediately irrigate with copious quantities of water, holding the eyelids open. Seek medical attention.

Skin

Remove contaminated clothing. Wash affected areas with copious quantities of soap and water immediately. Seek medical advice if effects persist.

Inhaled

Remove victim to fresh air. Employ artificial respiration if indicated. Seek medical attention if effects persist.
